About
Darrell Rhoades, lifelong learner and go getter. Has always been a hardcore do it yourself kind of person. With this in mind Darrell has spent 20 years dreaming about having a pond of his own but the little women said no… only if you do it so it doesn’t turn green.
Darrell lost the battle for that amount of time but once all the projects around the house got finished the pond came back into the picture.
During that long time of wanting and having Darrell did his research on the actual construction and maintaining a pond. But when the time came he sought out more info on the internet only finding an article here and there or the 7 steps even the 20 steps.
Yes times now have changed when you could put in a farm pond to now having, in some cases permits or green credits to be able to construct a pond, crazy huh?.
Anyways with the information Darrell accumulated over the years and heavy equipment experience he finally got the green light to get er done from the little women. The story goes on but the main point is Darrell has done what everyone else has done… dig a hole and wala a pond. Does it hold water? Did it turn Green?
Then after some time the pond turned green as most all do. Kind of a sad thing as the pond has become a focal point of the neighborhood and family and a way of life. Finding there was a strange feeling when at the pond it was a mission to cure the pond of its ailments. Oh that little special feeling was magic which cannot be explained in no other way, it’s like the world become you when you’re at the pond.
Now Darrell has been in your shoes or maybe you have not built your pond as of yet but now he has learned how to build, maintain a website to share his knowledge for those who seek What Ponds are all about, from building to keeping the water clear, clean and healthy for fish, wildlife and us humans to enjoy.
That was another part of the puzzle. The internet is full of information but only bits and pieces. Darrell has taken his experiences and knowledge to put into his website and even wrote a book called “How to Build a Farm Pond”.
Experimenting with some of the folk lore and ideas some folks had to keep the pond clean Darrell figured why not find some experts and see what is really happening and what equipment is needed for pond health. Yes there are a ton of products out there to dump or throw into your pond to make it “all better” but the way the economy and spending money is the search for the true correct way to care for his pond became the most important to him.
Checking out different manufacturers and types of products carefully weighted the differences. Making the best choice not only by presentation but seeing, touching and feeling the products Darrell made his choice in what he uses and recommends.
Why, because he owns, uses and checked into he details and quality of these products. Darrell is against using chemicals and this made the search a little harder to find quality products to help his ailing pond. Sure there are products where you can basically “nuke” the pond but that’s just a temporary fix.
This all took some amount of time, testing and learning to calculate the proper size of equipment for his pond and wants to help others in their endeavors by keeping the end in mind when you start to build a pond and if you own a pond and need help to bring back the magic your Oasis once had.
