Pond Equipment

Pond Equipment has a wide range of meanings. Pond equipment for hand digging equipment and power equipment for digging a pond.

Hand Pond Digging Equipment.
Consisting of  garden hand tools, shovels, pick ax, rakes and a hoe. If the area that is being dug is soft and easy to dig then digging by hand is the way to go, and if the site is not too large.

The backhoe has two major operations, digging with the hoe and loading or transporting material with the front loader. If you don’t want to dig by hand, the backhoe can dig an area 30′ x 40′ x 5′ deep. Then the piles of material will need to be moved or spread out making the pond a little deeper.

The dozer is a powerful material moving machine. The draw back is moving the dirt long distances as the dirt will fall away from both sides of the blade. But for smaller sites not requiring long travel the dozer can make short work in digging out, pushing and packing the dirt on the dam.

Excavator for Pond Equipment.

An excavator or track hoe typically is used for a dug pond. Just as the back of a backhoe, the excavator has a much larger arm which means it can dig deeper and has a longer reach. Once the material is in the bucket the machine can spin around and load a dump truck for transportation. On a much smaller scale there are mini track hoe’s, but still can’t transport material.

Scraper For Pond Equipment.
This is a serious dirt moving machine. Some capable of hauling 50 cubic yards. The backhoe front loader bucket seems very small at 1 ¼ cubic yards. The scraper needs a lot of room to maneuver as it is very long. It takes a long scrape from the ground as it is filling bowl. Once the bowl is full or the length of the site is meet, the material can be carried to the dam and spread in thin layers and the packed when the next load is being spread They are used for very large ponds and lakes, there is no need to have a dump truck, loader or excavator as the scraper transports the material. The use of a dozer may be required to help push the scraper to fill the bowl.

When finished it’s time to install the other pond equipment. Items such as water pump for the fountain and waterfall. Filtration for the pump to keep the water clean. Aerating to help provide oxygen. Statues, ornaments, spitters and lighting. This type of pond equipment will help and enhance and bring personality your pond.

It was a pleasure to be able to work with a "real person" who has hands on pond experience and is willing and able to answer questions (or research the answers) related to the products I was interested in. Thanks for your help improving the condition of my farm pond.
